National Research Symposium, Namibia
The Ministry of Education, Namibia is hosting the Inaugural National Research Symposium in Windhoek 15 - 17 September. Opened by Hon. Dr Abraham Iyambo, Minister of Education, the National Research Symposium will have a broad thematic focus, reflecting different research priorities for the country.
IIMC is working with the Ministry of Education to develop the ICT Research Track for the Symposium, to showcase current ICT innovation in Namibia and provide a platform for institutions with the necessary track record to participate in collaborative research.
During the Plenary Session on 16 September, Paul Cunningham (CEO, IIMC) will present opportunities for Africa-EU research cooperation under Framework Programme 7 (FP7). The Ministry of Education is the National IST-Africa Partner for Namibia and an IST-Africa Training Workshop on FP7-ICT will take place during the Research Symposium.

IIMC's Work in Africa Showcased During Belgian EU Presidency
IIMC's work in Africa with Ministries of ICT, Science, Technology and Innovation (STI) (IST-Africa Initiative) in 14 African Countries and National Parliaments (Africa4All Parliamentary Initiative) in 5 African Countries is being showcased at the ICT 2010 Event (27 - 29 September), as part of the Belgian EU Presidency.
On Wednesday 29 September, Paul Cunningham (CEO, IIMC) will moderate a Networking Session focused on "8th Africa-EU Strategic Partnership (Science, Information Society and Space)". This takes place in T 009, 9:00-10:30.
The IST-Africa Initiative (Founded by IIMC) and Africa4All Parliamentary Initiative (Co-Founded by IIMC) will be showcased in the International Village on Stand C14.

eSkills Summit, 26 - 28 July, Cape Town
The Inaugural eSkills Summit 2010 was hosted by the Government of South Africa in Cape Town (26 - 28 July). IIMC worked closely with the Department of Communications, the e-Skills Institute and TISI over a two year period to design and implement a programme before and during the Summit that successfully engaged with almost 300 senior representatives of all key stakeholders (Government, Business, Education, Civil Society/Labour) to
- Raise awareness of current practices and development of eSkills in South Africa
- Identify solutions to gaps in current institutional and programmatic structures concerning eSkills development in South Africa and provide a means for all African stakeholders to benefit from this knowledge sharing
- Develop a Collaborative Framework for an initial National e-Skills Plan of Action (NeSPA) for South Africa

Future Network and Mobile Summit 2010, 16 - 18 June, Florence
IIMC organised this year's Future Network and Mobile Summit in Florence, Italy from 16 - 18 June. The FutureNetworkSummit showcases original results in all areas of mobile, wireless and fixed broadband communications systems and networks.
The Best Paper Award was presented to "Weighted Sum-Rate based Power Allocation for the Uplink of Nonregenerative Cooperative Multi-User MIMO Communication System", authored by Fabien Heliot, Reza Hoshyar, and Rahim Tafazolli, Centre for Communication Systems Research (CCSR), University of Surrey.
The Runner-up Best Paper Award was presented to "Bidirectional Gigabit Transmission over a Single SI-POF for Home Networking", authored by A. Antonino, D. Zeolla, R. Gaudino, Politecnico di Torino & I.S.M.B, Italy.
Supported each year by the European Commission and Technical Co-Sponsored by IEEE, FutureNetwork Summit 2011 will celebrate the 20th Anniversary of this prestigious conference series from 15 - 17 June in the historical city of Warsaw, Poland.

IST-Africa 2010, 03 - 05 May, Durban
Supported by the European Commission and Hosted by the Government of South Africa through the Department of Science and Technology (DST), the IST-Africa 2010 Conference & Exhibition celebrated its 5th Anniversary at the International Convention Centre Durban, South Africa, 3rd - 5th May, attracting over 500 delegates from 49 countries and 4 continents. Rotating around Africa and Technical Co-Sponsored by IEEE, previous conferences have been Hosted by the Governments of Uganda (2009), Namibia (2008) and Mozambique (2007). The Inaugural IST-Africa Conference 2006 was hosted by South Africa.
